Exploring the Advantages of Owning a Built in Outdoor Kitchen

By Ava Brown, October 25, 2019

If you are a proud owner of a spacious yard then there is absolutely no reason not to enjoy it. Instead of spending the hundreds of sunny days that we Aussies are blessed with inside the house, why not reap the benefits of having extra space for socializing? And the thing that would help to make your yard an even better place for spending quality time with your friends and family is having a built in outdoor kitchen.

How you ask? Let’s take a look at all of the advantages that this smart investment has to offer!

It keeps the cooking smell outside.

Some foods have an unpleasant smell, but that is not reason enough not to enjoy them. Getting rid of the smell of frying fish requires opening all windows and having the range hood running a long time after you have finished cooking the meal. With a built in outdoor kitchen you won’t need to restrict your diet. You can chop up onions, fry fish and use all of your favorite spices. You can go ahead and experiment with all of your favorite recipes without worrying about the smell.

You will save energy and money.

Besides keeping your range hood on longer, you will probably need the air conditioning running too. As if it wasn’t hot enough as it is inside, having the stove on is an extra heat source. Outside, however, smoke and heat dissipate faster. By cooking in your yard, you won’t need to run these two appliances at the same time – thus you will be saving energy. Plus, your fridge shouldn’t be kept close to your stove or in a hot room as it will have to work harder to maintain its optimal temperature. By having an outdoor kitchen, you can expand the lifespan of your appliances. You will also have a lower electricity bill, so that’s two ways you are saving money.

You can host a cookout.

Some special occasions require a celebration party, such as a birthday. Restaurants can be a tad expensive and require you to cut down your guest list. With a built in outdoor kitchen at your disposal, however, you can throw a party on a tight budget. The setting will be less formal and your guests will definitely have a great time. You can invite as many people as your budget and planning skills allow. And since your guests won’t be seated, they will mingle and get to know each other better. Plus, you will be in charge of the overall décor and music!

I would also argue that you don’t need a special occasion to host a cookout. You can spend quality time with your friends and family while having a delicious and healthy meal. Instead of getting ready to go out and driving out somewhere, you can have fun in the comfort of your own home. It is a good opportunity to perfect your grilling skills and share the food you enjoy with your loved ones.

It is more spacious.

If you don’t have an open plan kitchen and like to have a chat while cooking, then a built in outdoor kitchen might be your thing. Your friends can help you out or keep you company while you are grilling the steaks. Not to mention that you won’t have to worry about spilling oil on your kitchen floor. Or running into someone while holding a hot plate. Having a spacious kitchen is a great way to prevent a lot of accidents.

You can be in control of a cooking disaster.

Sometimes, we make mistakes while cooking. I hate to admit it, but I have experienced firsthand a grease fire. It is easier to deal with a fire if it is not inside, close to flammable and expensive pieces of furniture. In my case, there was also a lot of smoke and it made breathing difficult. This may never happen to you, but why not play it safe? The smoke won’t bother you as much outside and the fire won’t be able to reach your kitchen ceiling.

It makes cleaning up easier.

Cleaning your yard is definitely better than cleaning your home. If you are having a lot of guests at a home party, some spills are bound to happen. Spilling beer or wine can stain and ruin your furniture. And with all that delicious food, you are at risk of some grease stains too. You and your guests will be more at ease if you are not worrying about making a mess. And having a built in outdoor kitchen will also spare you from cleaning up your countertops, kitchen floor and walls (if you manage to get oil all around the stove!).

It is an addition to your house.

Instead of spending the money on expanding your house, you can just furnish an outdoor kitchen. And voila -you have created some extra space in your home. This comes in handy if your teenage kids are having friends over in the living room and you have also invited some of your mates for a few beers. In this case, the bigger party gets to be outside!
